Dwangwa School

Picture
The original classroom block
Dwangwa School currently has over 2000 pupils, with 12 teachers, 8 classrooms, 6 of which MEL has helped to provide in 2004, 2005 and 2007. Situated in the nearby town, with parents who are traders, small-time street merchants, the community is not in a position to give time to make bricks, gather sand. The well-organised School Committee has therefore collected funds to buy the bricks, organise the transportation of sand in preparation for MEL's arrival to help with a fifth classroom block in 2011

August 2011... and we're up to roof height. Team 2 have been refurbishing classrooms here, and it just remains to be seen if we can find the funds to put a roof on this much-needed block... watch this space!

147 pupils in this class!
Those pupils lucky enough to be taught in classrooms face serious overcrowding, the absence of furniture, respiratory problems caused by dusty floors.

Outdoor learning, with plenty of distractions and problems!
Some classes have to receive their lessons under nearby trees. That becomes impossible in heavy rains (December - April) and difficult in the cold season (May - June).
