There a variety of ways anyone can get involved and start helping MEL

Your time and energy
- Fund raise with or for us.
- Many people choose to run, cycle or plan other challenges to help raise money for MEL. We can help with setting up a donations page through the Malawi Education Link Donations Page (it will show as a specific event)
- Caroline is usually available (within 100 miles of Ely) to give presentations to your club or organisation or school, in exchange for a donation.
- If you have any further thoughts please feel free to contact us through the contacts form on this site.
Funds
- All of MEL's funds now come from individuals directly with monthly donations or one-off gifts. Fundraising ebbs and flows so it is useful to have the stability of regular donations.
- None of the projects completed over more than a decade could have been achieved without the support and generosity of members of the public. MEL truly makes use of every penny, so every one of them counts.
- We'll provide feedback to individual donors or organisations in whatever form you want: your sponsored child / adult will write to you / email you through Caroline; Caroline will come in and bring photos, evidence of how your money was spent.
Malawi Education Link uses every penny. You transfer funds directly to our bank account, buy through the giving machine or donate through PayPal. If you would even like to post a cheque please use the contact page and we'll let you know our address.

What does the money buy? (as of 2016)
£7.50 buys a bag of cement. We need 1 bag to refurbish a chalkboard, 90 bags to build a teacher’s house, 160 builds a double classroom block.
£33 sponsors a student through a year at the local secondary school, giving them a greater opportunity at employment, later on in life, as well as equipping them with the knowledge to lead better informed lives. To sponsor a child or adult through specialised education (Mua School for the Deaf; tertiary education), contact us and we'll give you the cost.
£50 pays to refurbish, lime-wash and decorate a classroom with appropriate teaching resources.
£100 helps to renovate a teacher’s house, raising morale and encouraging that teacher to stay in that school
£1,000 pays for the tin to roof a classroom block
£3,500 builds a tin-roofed teacher’s house, ensuring that the school will attract a better standard of teacher (many schools are staffed by volunteers) whose salary will be paid by the government.
£3,500 will build a double classroom block, enabling up to 250 children to learn in sheltered, secure conditions.
